6-Week Figure Painting Foundation (Live Online Workshop)
 

Join Pragati Gunasekar, MFA from the New York Academy of Art and former Adjunct Faculty, for this 6-week online foundation course on painting the figure in oil. Working from provided reference images and video of a live model, you'll learn a clear, step-by-step approach to composing and painting the figure, no grid method, no tracing. Open to all skill levels.

Each week includes a live demonstration (recorded and available for replay), so you can follow along in real time or work at your own pace.
 

What you will learn:

• Establishing the initial form and shape of the figure

• Scale, position, and proportions of the body to achieve accurate structure

• Drawing, inking-in, and underpainting

• Study of light. Understanding shadows and highlights

• Color mixing of flesh tones. Understanding hue, value, and chroma

• Controlling oil colors to create a variety of skin tones

Format:

• Weekly live online sessions with demonstrations

• Sessions recorded for replay if you miss a class

• Reference images provided

• Feedback on submitted work throughout the course

• Final group critique in week 6

Please note this workshop will also cover basics like color theory and understanding. While geared toward the painted figure, the color knowledge gained applies to all genres — from landscape to portraiture.
